The older verision is on sale right now because the newer model just came out I do not believe they changed the mini 160 you may want to go with the mini 180 post more details of your tank corals and fish. PS welcome to Reef Central
Thanks for the welcome
o i didnt realise they'd brought out a new model!
the tank will be a 2ft cube + sump, with about 220-250 L after displacment (not 100% on sump size yet lol)
what did they change with the 180's? are the 160's not up to the job?
stocking will be sps/lps with light-ish fish stocking
Thanks Alot

Howdy Jake The new 180 pulls like the old 200 mini they changed the volute making it bigger they could not do this on the 160 I failed metric in school , how many gallons is 220 liters. IN the states the old mini's are 15% discount I'm not sure what the new one will cost, but should be similiar to the old (non) sale price. Check on the proline forum site for more details. Jim

o ok sounds gd to me, a super charged 180 ill hav to look at the price tag on one lol
even though they have updated the 180 & 200 i presume the 160's are still well up to the job just for the smaller tanks?
jus checked my system volume and it will be 297L / 78.5 US G Before displacment
do you think the 180 will be to much for it?
Thanks

for all BK users, are your sump water levels pretty high? and did you guys adjust the height to your riser and the twist nipple to your Red Dragons??? The reason I ask is that I am not getting the THICK skimmate on my 200Internal DLX

JakeReefy I would think the 160 would be fine and it is on sale right now, you could e-mail Albert at Proline and check with him to make sure of the proper sizing.

The recommended water level should be 7.87"-9.84". I run mind at 9". I adjusted the riser tube first, than use the adjustment on the RD (if needed). If you close the adjustment on the RD all the way the dots don't line up, I line mind up first before adjusting the riser. Once i get the water level where i want it I then fine tune it with the wedge adjustment.

What do you have for bio-load? I noticed when I tranfered my tank over and had a light bio-load, the skimmate was very light.

Well my sump water level is atleast 8" and I have the RD adjustment open about 2-3 turns aligning the black dots, the riser is up about an inch and the wedge is about half way.
With my sump water at the 8" level, my skimmer bubbles are over the neck, about half way up the collection cup.
I use to have my H&S foam right at the neck, the same with my past skimmers but they have always been external.
Its a 180 and a 12 G fuge, and atleast a 40G sump. I have about 150LBS of LR and about 10 fish.
2x pairs of flame wrasse
1x pair of multicolor centropyge
1x lineatus
1x golden tile
1x golden pygmy centropyge
1x pair of tailspot blennies
1x jewel tang
no corals yet but all i get so far is wet skimmate, i am trying to skim dry and thick as possible, but when i decrease my bubbles at the neck of the skimmer then i get NO production!!!

On the adjustment on the pump, you have the venturi open too much. close it all the way and then open it back up until the black dots are aligned.

The more you open, the more water the skimmer processes.

Also do you have an auto top off, level fluctuations in the sump will promote inconsistent skimming.

can you also post a pic of the skimmer and sump setup.

As Paulairduck said you have the venturi open too much. Once you close it all the way and realine the black dot, it should only be about an 1/8th- 1/4 turn to get them to line back up. As I like to adjust the riser tube while the wedge adjustment is open all the way.

I have the 300D internal; so far the only thing I got was bubble on the neck - nothing. It is sitting in 8" of water in my sump. My old RC180 give me more skimmate than this. I have try everything that's been suggested; all I got now is a 3k bubble maker

LMK how yours turn out.

Dennis

how long has it been plugged in, what is your salinity? did you give it a bath before putting it online? did you recently do any plumbing? do you have vaseline on anything in the tank?

if you have a BK 300 that wont skim either the skimmer pumps are broken or your setup is flawed.

How long have you had the skimmer set up, it can take up to two weeks before you see skimmate
